A tragic incident occurred Friday night in Port St. Lucie as a 3-year-old boy drowned in a family pool. The Port St. Lucie Police Department reported they received a call about the drowning at approximately 7:30 p.m. from the 2200 block of SW Edison Circle. WFLX provided details of the police statement, noting that the child's father had been at the time occupied with putting a 3-month-old infant to sleep after feeding them.
Upon returning to the kitchen, the father discovered his 3-year-old son, identified by WPBF as Denz Louis, floating in the pool with his 4-year-old sibling standing on the back patio. Police informed that despite the pool having a safety barrier, it remains unknown how young Denz was able to suddenly surpass it and enter the water.
Following the grim discovery, law enforcement stated that the father promptly jumped into the pool to rescue his child and proceeded to perform CPR. The attempts to revive the boy continued as the child was taken to Tradition Medical Center by St. Lucie Fire Rescue. It was there, at 8:11 p.m., that Denz Louis was pronounced dead, just one day shy of what would have been his fourth birthday.
With the investigation still unfolding, the exact circumstances that led to the child's ability to access the pool area remain unclear. The presence of a safety barrier raises questions about its effectiveness and how the 3-year-old was tragically able to defeat it.
