An Army veteran has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting incident at a Lauderhill apartment complex. Taisani Da Shoniel Graham, 26, allegedly shot a man whom he knew, who was also carrying his child in a car seat during the incident which occurred last Thursday, NBC6 reports.
Lauderhill Police responded to the scene at 7041 Environ Boulevard where they found the victim with a gunshot wound in the parking garage, he was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center and is currently in stable condition, according to Local 10 News. The encounter began on the fifth floor of the apartment complex and escalated when Graham entered the elevator on the third floor, following the victim to the parking garage where he drew a gun from a bag and shot the victim in the back, the victim was still carrying his child when he was able to return fire on Graham.
After the shooting, authorities say Graham threatened the child's mother with the gun as she came to collect the infant, prompting her to hide behind a car for safety. Graham remained onsite until he was detained by responding officers. The Army veteran who served for four years is now facing charges that include attempted murder, aggravated assault, and child abuse; he was denied bond during his court appearance.
The motive behind the shooting has yet to be determined, while the residents of the complex express shock over the event, with one telling NBC6, "I don't know what I would have done in that situation having my child with me and having someone firing at me, that's terrifying." During the court proceedings it was revealed that Graham invoked his right to an attorney and has not spoken to investigators.
