As the Bay Area enters a warming trend starting today, residents, especially in the interior East Bay and southern Santa Clara Valley, are set to experience mid to upper 90s temperatures through the upcoming weekend. NWS San Francisco warns of Moderate Heat Risk in these areas. Health officials advise individuals sensitive to heat, particularly those without adequate cooling or hydration, to take necessary precautions, as there can be impacts on health systems and heat-sensitive industries.

According to the recent Area Forecast Discussion by the National Weather Service, "Highs today range from the upper 70s to the middle 80s inland, reaching the middle 90s in the warmest locations;" the report also notes a gradual rise in upper level heights over the state, which is to be moderated by an upper level low passing through the Pacific Northwest, thus the Bay area can expect highs in the 70s along the bays and upper 50s to lower 60s along the Pacific coast that indicates a break from the gustier conditions of the past days.

Continuing with the National Weather Service forecast, the interior valleys of the East and South Bays are heating up and may see a spike in HeatRisk categories by the weekend. "With a risk for heat-related illnesses for vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people working or living outside without adequate shelter or hydration." Residents are strongly encouraged to stay hydrated and find ways to keep cool during the hottest parts of the day.

Meanwhile, mariners should heed as fresh northwester winds persist over the outer waters through midweek. Seas may reach heights of around 10 feet across the northern outer waters by the end of the week, "Winds will diminish late week into the weekend with a gentle to moderate northwesterly breeze prevailing," according to the Area Forecast Discussion. At the same time, aviation forecasts suggest that MVFR-IFR stratus may cause some disruptions in the morning before regressing later in the day, providing a small window of reprieve before the stratus likely returns the following morning, so flyers should plan accordingly.
