A cyclist was killed in a collision with an electric dirt bike on the Rickenbacker Causeway in Miami late yesterday. Two minors were riding the dirt bike when they collided with the bicyclist, leading to the temporary closure of eastbound lanes and major traffic delays in both directions, according to WSVN.
The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital but did not survive. One of the minors involved was also hospitalized with facial injuries as a precaution.
Miami Police Department spokesperson Officer Michael Vega said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Local 10 reported that traffic was redirected to westbound lanes to reduce congestion, with delays stretching from Brickell Avenue to Virginia Key and Key Biscayne.
The Miami Police Department issued a traffic alert on X confirming the closure and urging drivers to be patient as lanes reopened during the investigation.
