The streets of Logan Square have witnessed a reunion that brings an end to a two-month saga fraught with anxiety and hope. Angel Santiago, a legally blind resident of Chicago, embraced his 14-year-old dachshund, Bam Bam, after an unwarranted separation since June 5. According to WGN-TV, two individuals allegedly stole the tan and white emotional support dog from Santiago's backyard, prompting an expansive search that covered several miles each day.

This emotional support animal is more than just a pet for Santiago, whose sight is limited due to glaucoma. The absence of Bam Bam was keenly felt, triggering a community-wide effort to locate the service dog. A GoFundMe campaign set up to support this cause raised nearly $20,000, which went toward reward money, pet detective services, and other search-related expenses. Santiago told WGN-TV about his tireless efforts to distribute flyers and organize volunteer groups to comb through the neighborhood in search of his companion.

On Tuesday evening, an unexpected turn of events unfolded when an unidentified man and woman brought Bam Bam to the 16th District police station. The officers at the station were able to confirm the identity of the dachshund mix as the missing support animal. As reported by FOX 32 Chicago, Santiago was alerted and reunited with Bam Bam around 9:30 p.m., ending the prolonged search.

The generosity of strangers was evident through the GoFundMe initiative, while volunteers worked to share updates and pass out flyers to aid in the return of Bam Bam. The dog was in good health upon recovery, but mystery still shrouds how exactly he ended up at the police station, and no arrests have been made in relation to the apparent theft. "Five detectives continue to investigate how the dog ended up at the station. The pair who dropped off the dog refused to give any information to police before leaving," according to a FOX 32 Chicago report.
