In Burlingame, a distressing incident took place last Friday, involving a vehicle and two child pedestrians. According to the Burlingame Police Department's social media update, at around 6:25 PM, a sedan struck the two children on the sidewalk of the 1200 block of Donnelly Avenue. The younger of the victims, a 4-year-old boy, was pronounced dead at the scene, casting a pall over the community.
As families were likely unwinding in front of the Truffle Bar Restaurant, a sedan struck by an e-bike, careened forward across the roadway and onto the sidewalk, colliding with the children, during a typically peaceful evening. The 6-year-old girl was transferred to Stanford Hospital, presenting non-life-threatening injuries, as reported by the Hoodline article.
The sedan driver, a 19-year-old female from San Mateo, remained on-site and cooperated with the investigation. Authorities have ruled out both alcohol and drugs as contributing factors at this stage. The Burlingame Police Department and the North San Mateo County Major Accident Investigation Team are still investigating to understand the full scope of the circumstances that led to this tragedy.
