Residents of South Shore in the 4th District are being alerted to a recent spate of armed robberies that have shaken the local community. According to an official release by the Chicago Police Department, delivery workers have become the targets of armed assailants in the neighborhood. During the incidents, food delivery drivers were approached by up to four African American males, estimated to be between 20 and 40 years old, who were armed with handguns and demanded personal property.
The occurrences of these crimes took place at approximately 1:58 a.m. on July 28 and around 11:00 p.m. on July 30, both on the 7700 block of S. Kingston Ave Law enforcement is engaging with the public to ensure awareness and advise on safety measures necessary for protection in the face of these severe risks to personal security. The suspects are described as one to four male African Americans, each brandishing handguns, and leaving the victims without their belongings and a sense of security that everyone deserves.
In response to these adverse events, the Chicago Police are offering key suggestions to citizens, urging them to stay alert, report any unusual activities, remain calm if confronted by potential robbers, and prioritize memorizing any distinct physical features of the assailants. After a robbery, the victims should not chase the perpetrators, but instead immediately contact the authorities and try to retain a copy of the surveillance footage if available.
The Department is also reminding citizens that while safety should always be top priority, realizing the weight of these occurrences one should not be immobilized by fear but take prudent actions which include organizing public sales or meetings in secure locations such as police stations, and making sure to get contact information from potential witnesses at the scene, Chicago police implores everyone to remember, should a robbery occur, to call 9-1-1 and stay at the location if possible to assist officers.
