The Chicago Police Department has issued a business alert regarding a series of armed robberies across multiple neighborhoods, including Brighton Park, Bucktown, Jefferson Park, and Montclare, as reported on the department's website. The alerts come in the wake of recent crimes that took place within the jurisdictions of the 9th (Deering), 14th (Shakespeare), 16th (Jefferson Park), and 25th (Grand Central) Districts.
The incidents followed a common modus operandi: a male suspect, described as a White Hispanic between 20 and 30 years old, targeted small retail stores and restaurants. In each case, he brandished a handgun and demanded money from employees, as detailed by the CPD. He successfully stole cash and alcohol in two of the four reported incidents, but fled on foot empty-handed in the other two.
Authorities released details of the incidents, identifying the locations and times of the armed robberies: a store in the 3900 block of South Archer Avenue in Brighton Park on August 9 at 5:18 a.m. Another establishment in the 6000 block of West Higgins Avenue in Jefferson Park on August 19 at 11:50 a.m. A business in the 2000 block of North Damen Avenue in Bucktown, later that same day at 1:38 p.m., and a final location in the 2700 block of North Harlem Avenue in Montclare on August 26 at 7:21 p.m., as per the CPD
In an effort to apprehend the suspect, police released a description, asking the public to look for a man standing approximately 5’6” to 5’8” tall, weighing about 160 pounds, and wearing a beige baseball cap, a blue camouflage or black White Sox hooded sweatshirt, a cross-body bag, black cargo pants, and black gym shoes. Authorities urge anyone with information about the suspect or the crimes to contact law enforcement. Police also advise the public not to resist robbery attempts, emphasizing that personal safety takes priority over property. Witnesses are cautioned against interacting with suspects, but encouraged to gather contact details when possible. Officials further stress the importance of leaving crime scenes undisturbed, calling 9-1-1 immediately, and remaining on-site until authorities arrive.
