Miami-Dade County's District 8 is set to enjoy smoother rides and safer commutes thanks to a recent push for roadway resurfacing championed by Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins. According to a press release from the Miami-Dade County government, a total of $3.2 million has been funneled into the improvement of some of the district's most vital roads—a move that not only aids travelers but bolsters the local economy by assisting the agricultural sector.
"These roadways have been overlooked for too long in our community, especially in areas like Redland, where they play a key role in moving the food that feeds our region," Commissioner Cohen Higgins stated. In a statement emphasizing her dedication to community progress, she highlighted that the planned investments aim to enhance not only transportation efficiency but also bolster the local economy, improve accessibility, and ensure that South Dade remains a vibrant and attractive place to live, work, and play, as noted by the county's official website.
Among the roads that have benefited from the resurfacing projects, several are already complete, including stretches of SW 248 St and SW 296 St. Others are nearing completion, with the final touches such as thermoplastic striping pending the asphalt's curing period. These projects encompass critical infrastructure work such as milling and resurfacing, ADA ramp upgrades, and the enhancement of public signage and pavement markings.
These improvements are anticipated to uplift the driving experience for regular commuters and fortify the routes crucial for local farmers and businesses in District 8.
