The city of Conyers and its government representatives recently expressed appreciation for the state legislators responsible for pushing through key legislation that will impact both Conyers and Rockdale County.
In a reception held last Monday, Conyers's Mayor Vince Evans, together with the Conyers City Council and city staff, recognized the efforts of Senator Tonya Anderson (District 43), Representative Rhonda Taylor (District 92), Representative Doreen Carter (District 93), and Representative Angela Moore (District 91). Following a year of information sessions for businesses, a new community improvement district (CID) was established, allowing businesses within a targeted zone to opt-in to an additional tax for financing their choice of specific services or improvements. According to the City of Conyers' official news release, the CID encompasses areas such as part of West Avenue, the Highway 138 corridor, and Salem Gate Market.
The legislative actions didn't stop with the CID. The same body of lawmakers also supported the annexation of 27 properties into Conyers city limits, a move that enables clearer city boundaries and expected improvements in public safety response times, code enforcement, and beautification efforts.
"These women are champions and workhorses for the citizens of Conyers and Rockdale County," Mayor Vince Evans told the attendees at the reception, according to the City of Conyers. The expectation is for these legislative changes to foster a stronger, more vital community. Participating in the reception and having contributed to the legislative wins were City Attorney Carrie Bootcheck, Council Member Charlie Bryant, City Manager Kameron Kelley, Chief of Conyers Police Scott Freeman, and Chief Operating Officer Brian Frix, alongside the lauded state legislators.
