Scheduled for September 13, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the event encourages community members of varied chess proficiency to engage in matches with peers and local dignitaries. The venue hosting this gathering is the Pine Island Multipurpose Center, located at 3801 S. Pine Island Road.
The challenge, now in its tenth year, seeks to showcase the mental rigor and discipline that the game of chess demands. It's a free event, and both seasoned players, and novices are encouraged to attend and seek guidance from the instructors from Chess Art. Furthermore, the town will provide chess boards for matches, and there will be light refreshments and raffle prizes.
A special feature of this year's challenge is the "passport" system, which allows participants to log their attendance across multiple municipal events. In a nod to the town's upcoming 100-year milestone, a commemorative stamp will be offered, according to the Town of Davie's official website.
