A man was fatally shot by a Broward Sheriff’s deputy in Cooper City after he reportedly shot himself and then attacked the deputy. Deputies responded around noon yesterday to reports of a self-inflicted gunshot near a shopping plaza in the 10200 block of Griffin Road, NBC Miami reports.
Authorities said that when deputies approached to provide aid, the man assaulted a deputy, prompting the deputy to fire his weapon. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CBS News. The man’s mother and the deputy were hospitalized with injuries unrelated to the gunfire.
The individual’s identity has not been released. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating, as required in police-involved shootings.
