Miami residents looking to update their driver's licenses or handle other vehicle-related documentation have a new opportunity to get it done downtown. The Stephen P. Clark Center is offering a day dedicated to various driver's license services on Thursday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. An appointment is necessary, so those interested should plan accordingly to secure a slot. This event will take place at 111 NW 1st Street in the center's lobby, as per the county's announcement.
Services on offer will cover a broad spectrum including the renewal and replacement of driver licenses; applications for a new or replacement Florida identification card; driver license status checks; address change; registration as an organ donor; and updates for vehicle registration, disabled parking placard, and emergency contact information. For travelers concerned about the REAL ID requirements that came into play since May 7 for domestic flights, this session could prove essential. After the deadline, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), will only accept driver's licenses and ID cards with a star in the upper right corner as proof of identification at airports, according to a statement obtained by Miami-Dade County.
Those needing to replace their driver's license or ID with a REAL ID-compliant one are encouraged to review the Frequently Asked Questions provided by Miami-Dade County in advance. Requirements list what documentation to bring for the different services. For those without a star-marked card, a U.S. passport can also be used in lieu of a REAL ID-compliant card for official identification, as further detailed by the county's website.
Payments for services can be made through various methods including major credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, as well as cash and checks. To streamline the process and for additional information on what documents are necessary for specific transactions, visitors are encouraged to check the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles website prior to attending. Appointments can also be scheduled through this platform, ensuring a spot at the Center's licensing event.
