A tragic incident unfolded at a block party in East Nashville over the weekend, resulting in the death of a young woman and the injury of a man. WKRN reports that 20-year-old Nevaeh Wilson was fatally shot in the lower back as she tried to escape the sudden gunfire on Oakwood Avenue last Saturday night. The Metro Nashville Police Department responded to 911 calls around 11:15 PM amidst a large gathering spanning blocks 2400 to 2600 of the avenue.
Officials pronounced Wilson deceased after being taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center. In an unfortunate turn of events, a 24-year-old man also suffered a gunshot wound to the back at the party. As per a FOX17 report, he managed to transport himself in a personal vehicle to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, has so far refused to provide investigators with details regarding the shooting.
The East Nashville community has been left to grapple with the senselessness of the violence that interrupted what should have been a communal celebration.
