The Town of Farragut has received the Excellence in Innovation Award from the Tennessee Municipal League (TML) for implementing an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS).
According to the Town of Farragut’s official website, the ATMS, which became fully operational in spring 2025 after nearly a decade of planning, manages 26 traffic signals across the town. The project was supported by a Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
The system uses research-based timing plans for each signal and allows centralized control by the Engineering Department, enabling adjustments during unexpected traffic situations or emergencies.
Travel times have improved since the system was introduced. Mayor Ron Williams noted that travel time through the seven signals on the Kingston Pike corridor has been reduced by 140 seconds during the midday peak.
The award places Farragut among several cities recognized by the TML this year for innovation and improvement.
