A Ford Heights man faces felony charges after a disturbing instance of animal cruelty was revealed. According to the Cook County Sheriff's Office, 34-year-old Vianey Madrid-Segura was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals when his actions resulted in severe injuries to a small dog.
The incident, which unfolded on the evening of August 1, occurred when deputies observed a small dog being dragged behind a silver pickup truck driven by Madrid-Segura. After rendering first aid, they discovered the dog, a 5-year-old Yorkie, tied to the truck's hitch and suffering from extensive injuries. Madrid-Segura, received a citation for driving without a license at the scene, was later taken into custody after a further investigation.
The dog, which sustained trauma including severe wounds to all four paws and debris in the abdomen, was rushed to an animal hospital and has since returned to her owner—a relative of Madrid-Segura. The charges brought against Madrid-Segura classify his actions as a Class 4 felony, as he carelessly drove away with the dog still tied to his vehicle after allegedly allowing it to use the bathroom.
At the Markham Courthouse, where Madrid-Segura made his initial court appearance, a pre-trial detention was denied, as per the Cook County Sheriff's Office. Despite the gravity of the charges, it is essential to remember that the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty. The date for the next court hearing is currently pending.
