Chris May (R-Bedford) recognized the efforts of Heltonville local Matt Craig with the honorable Circle of Corydon Award, a distinction that marks significant contributions to the state of Indiana. Matt Craig, known for his steadfast work in supporting and advancing the initiatives of Naval Support Activity Crane, is retiring from his position as director of Crane Community Support within Radius Indiana.
Throughout his career, Craig has aimed to not only fortify but to also to continuously expand the advocacy network for NSA Crane. He worked in close collaboration with the business development team at Radius Indiana to maximize research opportunities and attract investments in Southwest Indiana. "Matt embodies the drive, perseverance and passion for his community that is worthy of the Circle of Corydon Award," May expressed in a statement, as per Indiana House Republicans. May's commendation illustrated the sentiment that Craig's contribution will have a lasting benefit, enriching Southern Indiana's defense ecosystem for generations to come.
Craig's influence is evident in his role in initiating platforms like the White River Military Coordination Alliance and the Crane Regional Defense Group. These initiatives have been pivotal in boosting the region's collaboration with NSA Crane. Previous to his advocacy work, Craig served at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division for 30 years, holding key positions such as deputy technical director and interim technical director, among various others. His service was distinguished by a Meritorious Civilian Service Award for making the Naval installation more efficient and effective.
His career trajectory, beginning as a radio electronics technician in the Indiana Army National Guard followed by service in the U.S. Navy, illuminates a life dedicated to military service. As per Indiana House Republicans, Craig's recognition also entails accolades such as the Sagamore of the Wabash, bestowed by previous Gov. Mike Pence, affirming Craig's stature as a valued contributor to Indiana. His membership in professional organizations like the American Society of Naval Engineers and the Association of Old Crows further attests to his extensive involvement in and commitment to national defense and industry associations.
