CBS News Chicago reported that the Highland Park Police Department received a report of the swans during Monday's rush hour and promptly responded to ensure commuter safety and the welfare of the birds.
Providing details on the incident, the city described how the swans had been blocking a lane, undoubtedly causing unexpected delays for drivers, the police department safely relocated the animals off the road and they were returned to their owner although it remains a mystery where the swans had originally escaped from, with the owner's identity remaining undisclosed. Officer Mendoza was specifically mentioned in the city's shared photos for his role in carrying one of the swans away from the hustle of Route 41 traffic.
A caller, along with Officer Mendoza, have been credited by the city for playing crucial roles in keeping the swans unharmed amid the morning's activities.
