Two Indianapolis men have been sentenced to federal prison for an armed robbery of a Speedway CVS store in 2024. John Rice, 29, received six years in prison, while Robert Larue, 45, was sentenced to eight years and one month. Both were convicted of interference with commerce by robbery and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, with Larue also convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm due to prior convictions, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana.
The robbery took place on April 13, 2024, when Rice and Larue, armed with guns, gave a CVS employee a note demanding money. The stolen cash included a GPS tracker, which led police to the suspects within 30 minutes. Speedway Police, tracking the GPS signal, found them in a blue Chevrolet Captiva. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the suspects fled on foot but were apprehended shortly after. A search of the vehicle revealed two semiautomatic pistols, a black Ruger and a teal Taurus, along with $1,576 in stolen cash.
Larue’s sentence was increased because his criminal history prohibited him from owning a firearm. The investigation was conducted by the ATF and Speedway Police Department as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Barloh, and the sentences were handed down by U.S. District Judge James P. Hanlon.
