In what could have been a dangerous confrontation, a prompt response from the La Vergne Police Department led to the apprehension of an armed robbery suspect yesterday. Officers were dispatched to a parking lot at 5001 Murfreesboro Road after receiving a distress call concerning an armed robbery in progress. The incident, reportedly stemming from an attempted firearm sale gone awry, was swiftly brought under control by law enforcement.
A detailed account shared by La Vergne's official release states that when officers arrived, they detained multiple individuals for questioning. The investigation revealed that the suspect, during what was supposed to be a private sale of a firearm, produced a handgun and attempted to forcibly seize the item in question. Both firearms involved in this incident were retrieved, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incidents.
No injuries were reported from the encounter, a fortunate outcome given the potential for violence in such scenarios. Lending to the prompt response by the police was the victim's presence of mind to contact 911 during the robbery, an action lauded by the local authorities. "We want to commend one of the victims, who was able to call 911 during the encounter, allowing our officers to respond quickly and safely apprehend the suspect," detailed by La Vergne's communication channels.
The suspect is now facing charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated assault and has been turned over to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office for booking.
