As Labor Day approaches, the City of Las Cruces is setting its holiday schedule for city-run facilities and services. Most city offices will be taking a break on Monday, Sept. 1, but residents can expect to see normal operations for all emergency services, which include police and fire departments. According to the City of Las Cruces, this year's closures are set to impact several community spaces and administrative buildings.

Among the sites to temporarily close are A Fielder Memorial Safe Haven, City Hall, and various community centers such as the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center and East Mesa Recreation Center. The Las Cruces Museum System, which extends to the Branigan Cultural Center, the Museum of Art, Museum of Nature and Science, and the Railroad Museum, will also pause to observe the holiday. Libraries throughout the city, including Thomas Branigan Memorial Library and its branches at Munson Center and Sage Café, are set to join in the closures. Not to forget, entertainment venues such as the Rio Grande Theatre will also be unavailable for visitors looking to catch a show on the holiday, as per the City of Las Cruces.

While some may find their routine disrupted, essential waste services will continue without interruption. This includes both the residential and commercial collections and recycling operations managed by the South Central Solid Waste Authority, which will operate on their regular schedule. For those looking to take a dip, the Laabs and East Mesa Bataan Memorial Outdoor Pools will offer free swim sessions from noon to 3 p.m. and 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. Additionally, the Regional Aquatic Center and Las Cruces Natatorium are set to open from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

Visitors and residents should note that the Foothills Landfill will be closed on Labor Day, with normal business hours set to resume the following day. In the meantime, 'Visit Las Cruces' operations are expected to continue, providing information and welcoming tourists even during the holiday. City officials encourage inhabitants to take advantage of the free swim days and remind them of the changes to the usual operation hours of public facilities during the Labor Day weekend.
