A rideshare driver from League City found himself behind bars after a dispute led to gunfire and left a man wounded yesterday morning. The incident, which unfolded in the 2500 block of Attwater Way, has added another layer of concern to the safety in rideshare services — a landscape already haunted by sporadic reports of violence.
League City Police Department responded to the scene shortly after 1 a.m. to find a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, with the situation quickly spiraling from a personal argument to a violent confrontation involving a third party. The man, whose identity has been withheld, was promptly transported to a hospital for treatment, according to a report from Click2Houston.
At the center of this violent altercation is 30-year-old rideshare driver Mark Anthony Gonzalez, who now faces a charge of aggravated assault. His arrest followed the shootout, which investigators believe stemmed from a domestic dispute between the unnamed victim and his girlfriend. As the disagreement intensified, the girlfriend called for an Uber, inadvertently setting the stage for the tragic event that ensued when Gonzalez arrived on the scene.
Gonzalez's involvement escalated quickly, with a confrontation between him and the boyfriend resulting in gunfire. Following the shooting, Gonzalez's bond was set at $100,000, as per the FOX 26 Houston report. As for the victim and his girlfriend, details about their identities and the nature of their argument remain sparse. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have yet to disclose further details on the victim's condition or the exact circumstances that led to the shooting.
