A Miami chess instructor has been arrested in connection with allegations unrelated to his teaching profession. Christopher Stormont, 50, was taken into custody on charges of sexual battery following an incident reported in the area of 83rd Avenue and SW 124th Street on July 29, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO).
The investigation began after detectives from the Special Victims Bureau interviewed a juvenile who reported inappropriate conduct. As a result, Stormont was detained for questioning. Since his arrest, additional individuals have come forward with similar accusations. Authorities continue to investigate and are asking anyone who may have relevant information or may have been affected to contact the Special Victims Bureau.
In accordance with policies protecting minors involved in sensitive cases, the MDSO has not released the identities of any victims. However, case number PD250729221924 has been made public for those who may have information to share.
