Miami-Dade County is ensuring its students step into the school year fully equipped, thanks to Commissioner Eileen Higgins. Two back-to-school events are slated for tomorrow, aiming to serve the needs of District 5 families as they prepare for the academic challenges ahead. The first event, co-hosted with Miami-Dade School Board Chair Mari Tere Rojas, offers a Backpack & Supplies Giveaway at Auburndale Elementary School. A variety of supplies, health screenings, and family activities are on the agenda, with the event running from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, open to all District 5 students and their families.
According to the official Miami-Dade County news release, aside from the school essentials, a treasured item—one free backpack per child—awaits those arriving, but it's while supplies last, and children must be accompanied by an adult. This initiative is not just about supplies; it's an opportunity to engage with local community partners who will be available to provide additional resources and support.
The second event, focusing on back-to-school necessities, is the fruit of a collaboration with Amigos For Kids. Taking place at José Martí Park, between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, this gathering is open exclusively to pre-registered families. Along with backpacks and supplies, registered attendees can look forward to receiving school uniforms, essential for meeting the upcoming year's dress code requirements, as detailed by the same news release.
The day promises family-friendly entertainment, with various activities meant to delight and engage students and parents alike. A cadres of partner organizations will be on-site at José Martí Park, ready to offer a network of resources and services to the families in attendance. Families interested in participating are encouraged to get involved and take advantage of the opportunities provided to prepare for the year ahead.
