Tragedy struck in Miami Gardens following what should have been a festive birthday gathering. Catherine Denise Gilmore, the woman whose 49th birthday celebration ended in a violent altercation with her husband, has been arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder, as reported by NBC Miami. According to the arrest report, Gilmore is alleged to have stabbed her husband in the neck after their guests had left. Her husband, responding in kind, shot her multiple times.

The incident, taking place on June 29, spiraled into violence just after the departure of party guests at the couple's residence on Northwest 28th Place. In a statement obtained by Local 10, Gilmore's husband recounted being called a "b----" and then stabbed by his wife. He fell and then retrieved a gun from under the mattress, firing it towards his assailant. The husband was subsequently found in their driveway by responding officers, bleeding profusely from a stab wound behind his right ear.

Upon entering the house, police discovered Gilmore on the living room floor, bearing multiple gunshot wounds. Initial evidence included a large butcher knife, blood-stained and found at the scene inside the master bedroom, and a blood-covered silver revolver located in a neighbor's front yard. Gilmore has since reported to police, as indicated by Local 10, that she doesn't recall much after being shot.

Both individuals were critically wounded, with Gilmore's husband close to suffering more profound injuries as the stab wound narrowly missed major arteries. According to NBC Miami, medical staff stated that these arteries were missed by mere millimeters. Both spent approximately two weeks in critical condition, underscoring the severity of the altercation. A witness notably reported hearing what sounded like gunshots and saw the victim exiting the residence with his neck bleeding.

As the judicial proceedings commence, Gilmore remains in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with her bond status yet to be determined.
