Minneapolis residents experienced a swift response from local law enforcement in stopping a car theft in progress. The Minneapolis Police Department reported that their 3rd Precinct officers rushed to the scene at the 2800 block of Columbus Avenue South. This action was prompted by a report of two individuals attempting to steal a car.
According to the department's social media post, upon arrival, officers discovered both suspects still inside the vehicle. They attempted to flee upon noticing the approaching police presence. While one suspect managed to evade capture, officers were able to apprehend the other. a teenage male. Found inside the car after they ran were screwdrivers and pliers, now serving as evidence against the suspects, who had noticeably broken the door handle and damaged the steering wheel in their theft attempt.
In their digital recount, the police detailed the damage inflicted on the car by the suspects. "The suspects had broken the door handle and damaged the steering wheel while trying to start the car," disclosed the department's post. These signs of forced entry and manipulation were clear indicators of the theft attempt.
With the recovered tools taken into evidence, the police swiftly brought the apprehended teenager to the Juvenile Detention Center. As put by the Minneapolis Police Department, "Quick work by our officers who helped stop this crime in progress!" The pursuit of the second suspect, however, remains ongoing as the department continues its investigation into the incident. The apprehended suspect's identity has not been released, in line with policies involving juvenile offenders.
