A Nashville man has been arrested and charged with the rape of an unconscious woman outside a church on Nolensville Pike. According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, 39-year-old Mohamed Mohamed faces four counts of rape after the assault was witnessed by a fire department crew on Thursday night.
The Nashville Fire Department's Engine 21 was en route to a call just after 9:30 p.m. when the crew observed the sexual assault taking place. The firefighters intervened, detaining Mohamed until the police arrived and attended to the woman, who was later pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. An autopsy is currently pending to determine the precise cause of her death. Surveillance footage from the church captured the victim walking unsteadily and sitting on the steps before the assault occurred, appearing visibly impaired.
Mohamed, now in police custody, declined to state his arrest. He was initially held at the Nashville police headquarters before a judicial commissioner set his bond at $300,000. The investigation is ongoing as detectives work with the Medical Examiner's Office and attempt to identify the victim, who carried no identification, through fingerprint analysis.
