Chicago has once again been startled by gunfire, leading to the death of one individual and injuries to two others. The incident occurred in Humboldt Park during the early hours of Sunday, according to Chicago police.
As reported by WGN-TV, the conflict escalated rapidly, with the shooter reportedly pulling out a gun during what was an argument and to then open fire. The altercation happened around 12:45 a.m. on the 1000 block of North Springfield Avenue. Despite a weapon being recovered at the scene, authorities have not made any arrests while they continue to swiftly investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence.
Among the victims, a 38-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was rushed to an area hospital but did not survive the assault. A 44-year-old woman was also struck by gunfire, receiving a wound to her wrist. She is now in good condition at a hospital. Furthermore, another man, age 28, is being treated for critical injuries after being shot in the chest and right arm.
Details on the shooter have yet to be disclosed, with authorities describing the perpetrator as an "unknown male offender." As ABC 7 Chicago reports, police are intensely combing through evidence to understand the gunman's motive and to hopefully bring forward an arrest soon.
