West Palm Beach residents who have ever been curious about the inner workings of the criminal justice system now have an opportunity to learn straight from the source. The Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission, in collaboration with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is launching the 50th session of the Citizen’s Criminal Justice Academy (CCJA) starting September 17. Participants will meet every Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the PBSO Headquarters for an immersive experience into the county's criminal justice processes, as per the county's announcement.
Weekly sessions, which run through December 17, are structured to provide an in-depth look at the complexities of law enforcement, the judicial system, corrections, and community initiatives. Offered a unique chance, attending community members can engage with professionals in a behind-the-scenes setting to deepen their understanding. This educational offering is made accessible to individuals aged 14 and older, excluding Thanksgiving week, as they gather in the PBSO’s Community Room, located at 3228 Gun Club Road.
The CCJA aims to shed light on many aspects of the local criminal justice system, with a curriculum seemingly designed to include both the casually intrigued and the deeply concerned citizens. "Whether you are simply curious or a committed skeptic, this course is designed for you," as stated on the official Palm Beach County government website. Dinner is provided each evening, offering attendees not just food for thought, but an actual meal to facilitate their learning journey.
After the conclusion of the session in December, participants are to be acknowledged with a Certificate of Completion, which commemorates their endeavor and dedication towards a greater comprehension of the criminal justice system. For those interested in joining the upcoming session or seeking more details, resources suggest reaching out to the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission at 561-355-2332 or visiting their website for registration information.
