
Tragedy struck a busy intersection in Carmel Valley, San Diego, when an 18-year-old female driver and a 32-year-old male pedestrian were involved in a severe collision on Monday evening. Officer J. Perales reported that the incident occurred around 8:43 PM at the crossroads of Del Mar Heights Road and Lansdale Drive, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The young woman was driving her Tesla Model 3 through a green light when the male pedestrian, for reasons not yet clear, ran directly into her path from the northeast corner of the intersection, the collision resulted in the man sustaining life-threatening injuries including a skull fracture, facial fractures, pneumothorax, and acute respiratory failure, he was immediately taken to a local hospital for treatment. The San Diego Police Traffic Division is currently investigating the circumstances of the accident, and they are urging anyone with information to come forward.
In a press release provided by the police department, the identity of the injured man and the driver has not been released as the investigation is still ongoing. The extent of the pedestrian's injuries underlines the gravity of the crash, raising questions about pedestrian safety and traffic management in increasingly busy urban areas.
