A 26-year-old man, Sergio Delgado-Rodriguez, has been charged following an armed robbery of a Peoria gas station last weekend. According to a report by the Peoria County officials, Delgado-Rodriguez was accused of using a handgun to steal $30 from a gas station employee at 3203 SW Adams Street.
In a subsequent court appearance, it was determined that the accused would face the justice system on the outside, the court denying the State's Petition to Detain. This decision came down to Delgado-Rodriguez’s clean criminal record. He's since been released with several conditions: GPS electronic monitoring, no contact with anyone involved in the robbery, and an explicit ban on possessing firearms or other dangerous weapons.
Police were swift to respond to the emergency call from the gas station this past Saturday. An employee described the male suspect who had entered, brandished a weapon, and demanded money. With only $30 from the cash drawer taken, the suspect fled, leaving behind a trail leading to a quick arrest. The Peoria Police Department discovered the suspect’s vehicle parked not far from the scene, and a search of the vehicle unearthed both the cash and handgun used in the crime, according to officials.
The arrested man, Delgado-Rodriguez, has been charged with additional firearms offences due to an invalid FOID card. This includes Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, as outlined in the official announcement. Anyone with more information on the case is urged to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
