Attention drivers in north Peoria: commute disruptions are looming. Starting next Monday, traffic through one of the area's key junctions will be hemmed in by construction. According to a recent announcement on Peoria's official website, the intersection of Happy Valley Road and Vistancia Boulevard will undergo a significant overhaul, including the installation of new traffic signal infrastructure and an additional north-to-west left-turn lane. While the work is set to take place mainly during weekday daytime hours, drivers should expect round-the-clock traffic restrictions for the project's six-week duration.
The City of Peoria details the scope of the construction project. It entails modifications to the center median, as well as the installation of signal pole foundations and conduit. Moreover, mast arms and signals will see upgrades. For those accustomed to traversing the Happy Valley Parkway, the area between Loop 303 and Happy Valley Road will be pared down to one lane in each direction. A strict directive also channels all northbound traffic on Vistancia Boulevard to make a compulsory left turn onto Happy Valley Road. South of the fray, Vistancia Boulevard will be utterly inaccessible between Happy Valley Road and Coldwater Ranch Drive—a stretch fully closed to passage.
The implications for local traffic are significant. Eastbound travelers on Happy Valley Road will find their path constricted to a single lane west of Vistancia Boulevard, with no option but to hang a right onto Vistancia Boulevard going south. Detours are set to reroute southbound traffic on Vistancia Boulevard at El Cortez Place, encouraging the use of Jomax Road for those seeking Loop 303 access. The city warns that southbound drivers will find no thoroughfare beyond this point, as per details provided on Peoria's website.
This project, expected to conclude in October, is described as an interim measure. It paves the way for the City of Peoria's long-term ambition to realign the intersection into an unequivocal four-way crossroad, positioned west of the current location. Those seeking the latest updates or additional details on the project can either visit the city's official website or reach out to the dedicated project hotline at 602-532-6250.
