Major roadwork is set to impact drivers in north Phoenix as the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced a two-week closure of the freeway ramps connecting eastbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) to Interstate 17, starting early August 15. The closure, necessary for the replacement of older, worn concrete pavement, is slated to begin at 12:30 a.m. and is part of an ongoing effort to improve and widen Loop 101, as reported by the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Motorists planning to navigate this region will have to make adjustments to their routines. According to ADOT, the ramps are expected to reopen on Aug. 29, just ahead of the Labor Day weekend. Detours will redirect drivers to routes such as 35th Avenue, Deer Valley Road, and Union Hills Drive in order to join either direction of I-17. For those headed towards downtown Phoenix, options include using State Route 51 or I-10.
ADOT advises allowing extra travel time to accommodate these changes. The construction works are part of a larger project to enhance the Loop 101 corridor between I-17 and 75th Avenue. For real-time updates on highway conditions during the course of the construction, ADOT recommends the use of its Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov or the corresponding AZ511 app.
