Reggaeton artist Jhayco, whose legal name is Jesus Manuel Nieves Cortes, found himself in police custody today, facing drug charges in Miami-Dade County. The singer was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 4:24 a.m., with the charges listed as possession of cocaine and possession of 20 grams or less of cannabis, details were limited but the bond was set at a sum of $3,000, Local 10 news reported.
According to an arrest report detailed by NBC Miami, authorities pulled over a red two-door Corvette after it was observed idling on Southwest Eighth Street; they then became suspicious after the car did not move, prompting them to intervene and upon approaching the vehicle they noted "the strong odor of cannabis," and observed "white powder on his pants and white powder on his nose." Faced with these visible signs, the officers conducted a search after Nieves Cortes failed to present a driver's license.
The search of the vehicle yielded two black pouches containing approximately 7 grams of suspected cannabis each, while Nieves Cortes was found to be carrying three clear baggies with what appeared to be powder cocaine, totaling about two grams, subsequently he was jailed for cocaine possession and possession of 20 grams or less of cannabis.
More information is expected to emerge as the situation progresses, providing further clarity on the circumstances and any potential implications.
