The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) embarks on the final 60-day ramp closure linked to the Loop 101 widening project. Starting late Tuesday night, September 2, the southbound Loop 101 off-ramp at Raintree Drive is set to shut down at approximately 11:45 p.m., a move necessary for reconstruction services to match the freeway’s ongoing expansion efforts, the ADOT announcement says.
This last closure spells the beginning of the end for a series of disruptions that have become a familiar part of the local landscape, the project which kicked off in January 2024 aims to add lanes in both directions and other enhancements, such as those at the Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard interchange, it has been reported that alternative routes will be necessary for drivers looking to access Raintree Drive, with recommendations to exit at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and proceed using the southbound frontage road. The project, priced at a cool $108 million, isn't expected to wrap up before early 2026.
Funded in part through Proposition 400—the half-cent sales tax initiative passed by Maricopa County voters back in 2004—the Pima Freeway Improvement Project between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive/Pima Road is poised to not only widen the freeway but also to ease future traffic flow, when the new lanes finally open, commuters are advised to stay updated on highway conditions, a task made easier through real-time status updates that are handy on ADOT's Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, their mobile app for Apple or Android devices, or by dialing 511.
