The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is currently on the lookout for an incarcerated woman who fled from the San Diego Female Community Reentry Program (FCRP) on Tuesday evening. Angel Rayburn, the woman in question, managed to remove her ankle monitor and exit the facility around 9:05 p.m., as mentioned in an official CDCR statement.
After the escape was brought to the attention of officials, an emergency count was carried out, confirming Rayburn's absence. Local authorities were immediately notified, and the CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety is coordinating with them to assist in the search for Rayburn. She is described as a 37-year-old Caucasian female, standing 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 155 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes, and was last spotted in black sweatpants, a black sweatshirt, and white sneakers. Her last known location was near Kearny Mesa Road and Armstrong Street in San Diego, according to the aforementioned CDCR release.
Rayburn was initially imprisoned on charges stemming from evasion of a peace officer, assault with the potential to cause great bodily injury, and possession of stolen property. Her sentence, which began on February 14, was set for three years, and she joined the FCRP in San Diego on August 14, just twelve days before her escape, the CDCR reported.
The FCRP aims to facilitate a smoother transition for eligible female offenders from incarceration back into the community by linking them to essential services such as substance abuse treatment, mental health care, and employment assistance. It is a program designed for those with less than two years remaining on their sentence, the CDCR states.
