A Spring Valley woman is currently facing animal cruelty charges after a video emerged showing what appears to be her mistreating a Chihuahua. The case has captured the attention of local animal welfare officials and has prompted a swift legal response.
According to the County of San Diego, the disturbing footage was captured on July 21 by a neighbor in an apartment complex parking lot. It allegedly shows the woman, who had been living out of her vehicle, striking the dog forcefully with a wooden plank before covering it with a container and kicking it. This incident led to the involvement of San Diego County Animal Services and the San Diego Humane Society.
To follow up on the incident, County Animal Services located the woman and the dog yesterday. After reading her Miranda rights, the woman consented to speak with law enforcement officers. Meanwhile, the small Chihuahua was impounded and is now undergoing a cruelty examination by veterinary staff. Despite appearing frightened, medical reports suggest the dog is doing well and is on its way to recovery.
The County Animal Services has extended gratitude to the community member responsible for reporting the incident and underscores the importance of public assistance. They encourage anyone suspicious of animal abuse or neglect to immediately report it by calling 619-234-2341.
