A man has been taken into custody, facing charges including false imprisonment after a reported abduction of a minor in Sunrise, as per the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Reports from WSVN detailed the arrest of 51-year-old Torrance Canady, whose vehicle was traced to the 7900 block of Northwest Seventh Avenue in Miami. The minor was discovered in the back seat of the suspect's vehicle, leading to immediate action by law enforcement officials.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit (SVU) was able to rapidly confirm the vehicle description associated with the suspected kidnapping which occurred near 2900 West Sunrise Boulevard. Canady's identification was made soon after. The SVU and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office collaborated closely to swiftly locate and apprehend the suspect. Upon his arrest, Canady was taken directly to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Further investigation by authorities revealed that there was a previous relationship between Canady and the minor. Caribbean National Weekly reports indicate that the two had an ongoing dispute. This appears to have escalated to the point where law enforcement intervention became necessary. Details surrounding the nature of their relationship and the dispute have not been fully disclosed as of yet.
In addition to the false imprisonment charge, Canady is also facing charges for aggravated assault and for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. These charges add layers of gravity to the case, as the implications reach further than the initial kidnapping allegation.
