In the early hours of Monday, an armed robbery at a Denny's restaurant in Clackamas County became the scene of a crime that led to an arrest just days later. According to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred at approximately 1:38 a.m., when a man wielding a handgun demanded a black bag of cash from an employee and then fled in a blue sedan.
Surveillance footage from the restaurant at 12101 SE 82nd Ave., near Happy Valley, was instrumental in identifying the suspect. Authorities, having analyzed the video evidence carefully, named Douglas Wayne Kelsey, a 33-year-old man from Aloha. Armed with this information, the detectives issued an arrest warrant soon after.
On Thursday, Kelsey's whereabouts were traced to a home in the 7700 block of SE Lamphier Street in unincorporated Clackamas County, near Milwaukie. The Clackamas County Interagency SWAT Team executed the arrest shortly after 2:00 p.m. During the arrest, Kelsey sustained minor injuries, which necessitated a visit to a local hospital for treatment.
Having been treated, Kelsey was booked into the Clackamas County Jail by the evening of the same day—without bail—facing multiple charges. "Robbery in the First Degree, Robbery in the Second Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Theft in the First Degree, and Menacing," as detailed in the statement provided by the Sheriff's Office.
