Residents of Churchill Court in Smyrna were jolted last night when a car violently crashed into a neighborhood home, causing significant structural damage. The Smyrna Fire Department responded to the scene at approximately 8:40 p.m. after receiving reports of the accident, as WSMV detailed. Arriving units discovered the car had forcefully penetrated the dwelling, leading to a partial collapse of the house.
The incident, which unfolded in the 400 block of Churchill Court, summoned both the Smyrna Fire Department and Smyrna Police to the precarious scene. With the vehicle found "substantially" inside the home, fire crews conducted a thorough evaluation of the area, ensuring the safety of any potential victims. Smyrna officials, in their due diligence, confirmed that there were fortunately no injuries resulting from the crash, according to Rutherford Source.
The structural integrity of the home remained in question following the incident. Smyrna building officials rapidly made their way to the site to make a critical assessment, determining the future habitability of the residence. The home's stability is held in a precarious balance, pending a detailed examination by structural engineers, as noted by the Smyrna Fire Department.
Additional information has yet to be released about why the vehicle, identified as an SUV by WKRN, ended up inside the residence with part of the structure sustained a collapse, but one occupant had to be helped by firefighters to evacuate the home. Authorities continue their investigation into the causes behind this harrowing event, which, in a stroke of luck, resulted in no physical harm to the individuals involved.
