Early Tuesday, a 16-year-old girl became the victim of a drive-by shooting in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood, sustaining serious injuries after being hit in both legs. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the incident occurred in the backyard of a residence on the 7400 block of South Dante Avenue at around 1:35 a.m., when a gray SUV rolled up and an unidentified assailant fired shots before speeding away from the scene.
After the shooting, the girl was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was listed in serious condition, and despite the severity of her wounds, further details on her medical prognosis at this time were not provided, reflecting the uncertainty as the girl clings to life and the community yet again bears witness to the senseless violence that seems to permeate its streets, the FOX 32 Chicago notes.
Currently, no suspects have been apprehended in connection with the shooting, and the investigation remains active as Area One detectives are piecing together the circumstances that led to this act of violence. The authorities have not released a motive, nor have they identified any potential suspects.
