Two men lost their lives in a harrowing incident on Interstate 85 in Atlanta last week. The accident occurred last Thursday night and led to the shutdown of the southbound lanes. According to Atlanta News First, the victims were 51-year-old Glenn Young and 49-year-old David Haynes.
Atlanta Police reported that the men were attempting to cross I-85 S when the tragedy struck. A vehicle hit both individuals around 9:10 p.m. near the Lindbergh Drive exit. Notably, one of the victims suffered a second collision with another car. Authorities, responding to the scene, found that the southbound traffic had to be entirely rerouted due to the ongoing investigation. Both drivers involved in the incident cooperated with the authorities, remained on site and, as of now, no arrests or charges have been made.
Detailed information about the circumstances of the collision has emerged slowly. FOX 5 Atlanta disclosed a closure in all lanes of southbound traffic near the Buford Connector overpass that night. The Georgia Department of Transportation alongside other officials worked to decipher the sequence of events that led to this unfortunate outcome.
Both drivers are cooperating with the investigation, but key details remain unclear—most notably, it is still unknown what led Haynes and Young to be on the interstate as pedestrians.
