In an impressive display of athletic prowess, the University of Utah's cross country team had three runners finishing in the top 10 at the University Invitational, hosted by Utah Valley University. According to UtahUtes.com, senior Millie Wilcox, a seasoned sprinter, made a splash in her cross country premiere, covering the three-mile distance in 17:16.03 to secure a third-place finish in the competition held on Friday.
Wilcox, who hails from Holladay, was not alone in showcasing Utah's speed on the course. Joining her in the top finishes, after making her way across the finish line in 17:34.86, sophomore Josie Fale took seventh place. Hot on Fale's heels, and not far behind, was the rising star freshman Cloe Ruth, who snagged an eighth-place finish in her first collegiate race, clocking in at 17:40.12. Lauren Ayers, another Utah runner, nearly broke into the top ten with an 11th-place time of 17:42.81, and Allie Bruce wrapped up Utah's top finishers at 15th, posting a time of 18:03.18 in her collegiate debut.
The Utah cross country team is now looking forward to hosting its sole home meet of the season, which will take place earlier than typical this year on Friday, Sept. 12, at Sugar House Park. Dubbed the Beehive Invitational, the event is scheduled to commence at 10 a.m. (MST) for the women's race, followed by the men's approximately 45 minutes later.
