Major roadwork is set to begin on 1300 East in a project aimed at improving the thoroughfare's conditions for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike. As stated by Salt Lake City, the paving portion of the improvements will kick off on Sunday, August 24.

Residents and commuters should be prepared for the initial paving work, which is set to affect the stretch between 2100 South and I-80 through mid-September. To avoid traffic mayhem, the work is scheduled at night. The project will be moving south, with repaving from I-80 to Zenith Avenue slated for a mid-September start. By the end of November, commuters can look forward to smoother drives as the project wraps up.

According to Salt Lake City, paving will occur from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. To minimize inconvenience, 1300 East will only be fully closed from Aug. 24–26. During daytime hours, traffic will keep rolling with at least a couple of lanes open.

Meanwhile, nearby residents might have to bear with elevated noise levels and the telltale vibrations of nighttime construction, as well as the occasional dust cloud. As crews ready to lay down the pavement, they'll start with closed sections between 2100 South and Wilmington Avenue from Aug. 24–26, before reducing the road to one lane in each direction up to Sept. 8.
