Tragedy struck Indianapolis' northwest side as a UPS worker was fatally shot outside his place of employment. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) reports that officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of West 81st Street at approximately 9:55 p.m., following calls of a shooting incident, according to FOX59.
Upon arriving, officials discovered a man, later identified as a UPS employee, with gunshot wounds near a car. Although he was quickly transported to a local hospital in critical condition, he did not survive his injuries. The grim reality of violence in the workplace rears its head, as WRTV notes that the man had only recently completed his shift and was sitting on a bench when the shooting occurred.
Details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain scant. IMPD Capt. Rob Rider highlighted the victim's connection to the UPS distribution center and recollected the sequence of events leading up to the shooting. Rider revealed that the man "had just gotten off work" and was sitting on a bench when he was approached and shot by an assumedly, unknown individual. This tragic information was disclosed during a briefing captured by WTHR.
