The Wasatch Front is bracing for a bout of construction-born congestion this weekend as the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) marks a significant progress point in the development of the new Shepard Lane interchange. Drivers are advised to plan for possible delays on Friday night; as UDOT embarks on a concrete-pour for the emerging bridge deck, an endeavor that will temporarily limit I-15 to a single lane in both directions from 200 North in Kaysville to Park Lane in Farmington starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 1, and ending at 7 a.m. the following Saturday.

In anticipation of the bottleneck traffic, UDOT is advocating for advanced route planning and caution while navigating the area, the closures are designed to grant construction crews unfettered access to expedite the pouring of concrete, a material without which modern infrastructure would quite literally crumble into obsolescence, the interchange promises a suite of improvements including a 10-foot wide shared-use trail as well as new sidewalks and a pedestrian bridge all aimed at reducing congestion and heightening safety for the community.

Projected to be an infrastructural boon for Davis County, the Shepard Lane interchange will not only traverse Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) and Utah Transit Authority (UTA) tracks but also promises to strengthen pedestrian and bicycle connectivity along Park Lane, and the ramps associated with I-15, U.S. Route 89 and Legacy Parkway (State Route 67) are also part of the expansive project, which is expected to inaugurate by late 2026.

"This is a big moment in our work to build the new Shepard Lane interchange," Senior Communication Manager Mitch Shaw told UDOT News, emphasizing the anticipated impact on the daily movements of Davis County’s citizens, the interchange seeks to answer an increasing demand for versatile transportation modalities amid a time where space becomes ever more contested by car, foot, and tire alike.
