An individual detained at Weber County Jail's 12th Street Facility has died following a medical emergency, the sheriff's office reported. Per a social media post from the Weber County Sheriff's Office, the unnamed detainee suffered an emergency around 8:45 PM last night and was later pronounced dead at the local hospital.
The detainee who passed away had been in custody for a brief duration, housed in the jail's medical area. Responding Weber County deputies, as well as medical staff, immediately began life-saving measures and summoned EMS, Lt. Cameron McCarty of the Weber County Sheriff's Office mentioned, detailing the efforts taken to save the individual's life. Deputies, medical personnel, and EMS continued these measures until the individual was transported to the hospital.
The Sheriff's Office has not disclosed further details, citing an ongoing investigation by the Weber County attorney's office. The policy ensures thorough scrutiny whenever an in-custody death occurs.
