This weekend, drivers who navigate through Salt Lake County and Northern Utah should brace themselves for significant traffic disruptions due to construction on Interstate 215 and Interstate 15. As reported by UDOT, lane reductions and traffic shifts will occur as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements.
Starting on Friday, August 8, at 11 p.m., northbound I-215 will be bottlenecked down to a single lane between North Temple and State Route 201 until the following morning, August 9, at 9 a.m. While crews work on lane shifts to the east, the reduced traffic will enable the installation of a new drainage system. The southbound ramp from Redwood Road to the northbound I-215, closing on Friday night, will remain out of service until October, as advised by UDOT.
Drivers should be aware that the southbound lanes on I-215 won’t be spared either. Following the installation of a temporary barrier to secure the construction area, traffic between North Temple and SR-201 will be narrowed to just two lanes each night from August 9 at 9 p.m. to August 12 at 11 a.m. Additionally, I-215 south will be squeezed to three lanes on the evening of August 13 while lanes shift to the west, remaining this way through October.
Looking at I-15 in Davis County, UDOT advises that southbound traffic will be significantly impacted this weekend with lane closures between 200 North and Park Lane. On August 8 and 9, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., only one lane will be available to vehicles as crews implement new lane striping. The off-ramp to Park Lane (Exit 325) will shut down on the night of August 9, pushing drivers to opt for Parrish Lane (Exit 319) as a detour.
This construction is part of a larger project embarked upon by UDOT, which includes repaving three miles of I-215 and 14 miles of ramps on SR-201, as well as I-80 and California Avenue, alongside the rehabilitation of 22 bridges. The endeavors are set to bolster the longevity of these critical transportation conduits. For sustained updates and guidance on detours, commuters are encouraged to consult UDOT's resources directly.
