Weston's own Mayor Margaret "Peggy" Brown has climbed another rung on the political ladder, as she has now been sworn in as President of the Florida League of Mayors (FLM) for its 2025–2026 term. According to an announcement from the City of Weston, the move comes on the heels of her stint as President‑Elect the previous year, where she had the chance, to learn from then-President Nancy Miller of Daytona Beach Shores.
Notably, Brown breaks new ground as Weston's first female mayor to hold this prestigious role — an indicator of her growing influence and the confidence her peers throughout Florida place in her leadership abilities. The FLM, founded back in 2005, is known for its commitment to service, collaboration, respect, among various other core values. It's a space for the state's mayors to educate themselves, share ideas, and push for legislative changes at both state and federal levels.
During her presidency, Brown will helm an organization that runs wide-ranging programs from the City Catalyst Grants – that dole out up to $2,500 for community-enhancing projects – to encouraging middle schoolers to ponder the impact of Home Rule in their areas.
