The quiet of the night in Oceanside was disrupted on Thursday when a fatal hit-and-run incident claimed the life of an unidentified adult male pedestrian. According to an official report released by the City of Oceanside, the tragedy occurred on eastbound Oceanside Boulevard, just west of El Camino Real, at around 10:21 PM.
In response to the incident, the Oceanside Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) sprang into action, directing an investigation that would soon lead to an arrest. Using surveillance footage and advanced license plate reader technology, they pinpointed the involvement of a 2020 Ford Ranger. Found at her residence, with the vehicle displaying damning evidence, 65-year-old Yolanda Orozco was the registered owner, who was soon placed under arrest.
Oceanside Police later confirmed Orozco's involvement in the incident, as she admitted to being behind the wheel at the time of the collision. Presenting signs of intoxication, Orozco now faces charges for felony hit-and-run, and additional DUI-related charges are pending as the investigation unfolds. The identity of the victim remains unconfirmed as the law enforcement's search for answers continues.
The police urge anyone who witnessed the hit-and-run or holds information regarding the case to come forward. Officer Jose Gomez can be reached at (760) 435-4952.
